THE SIMPLEST WAY TO MAKE MARKETING YOUR CAREER

Hello guys. In this article I would be writing about important points that are to be kept in mind by an emerging entrepreneur. You must be thinking that why am i writing this article. There are hundreds of blogs available in the web describing about the same. Yes, you are right there is plenty of information available. But what I am going to write today is going to motivate you to not procrastinate and clear your doubts.

See, we all need money. There is no limit to earning. I have set my limit. Sky is the limit for me. So, setting up a financial goal is the first step in building your future.

Say for example you want to make Rs 1 crore. One way is to sell a product of Rs 100 to 1 lac customers. Another way is to sell a product of Rs 1000 to 10000 customers. If you have a product that is of higher cost then you will not be having a lot of customers for it. Similarly, if you are having less customers then sell the product at a higher price.

If you think that in your particular niche you are not having a lot of customers than you need to increase the price of the product because in a narrow niche the number of suppliers would be very less. So, this is how you make revenue, not profit. So, to earn profit you need to gain customers first. If you are gaining 100000 customers who are paying Rs 100 for your product then you have them all. Now, out of these 1 lac customers if you sell a product of Rs 1000 and 10000 of them buy the product then you are making profit without even spending.

So, you must choose a niche which is not too narrow such that you will not have any customers at all or not too broad such that you are nowhere to be found in the market.

Before entering the market we need to understand it first. Many of us think that marketing is just selling a product. Do you believe that? I did too. But my mentor Mr Deepak Kanakaraju changed my mind. So, let me tell you marketing is based on science. We do not create a product out of nowhere. We understand the needs and wants of the customers and according to their demand we create a product that suits their interests. Once we make the desired product it starts selling itself. A product gets sold before it gets created. So, if we study the consumer behavior well we know what to pitch to them.

Marketing is not only about creating a product and selling it. It is also about keeping the existing customers happy and gain their trust so that they remain a customer for life. So, marketing means to build a brand and capture a position in the minds of the customer. Remember one thing, marketing not just helps us discover a product; it helps us to have a perception about the product. For example, we prefer branded over a random product because we know the quality of it and its longevity.

There is a saying by the famous Walt Disney, co-founder of The Walt Disney Company-

Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.”

Awesome right?

I think now you have a pretty good idea about marketing. So, you would be thinking now what would be your niche. The most important thing is that be the only brand or be the no 1 brand in any domain you choose. If not no 1 then be no 2. Choose a niche which is narrow. A niche under a niche or a sub-niche. You must have uniqueness only then you can survive in the market. Choose something you are passionate about and you have the talent to present it in the market.

You must also understand digital marketing, traditional marketing, what is the difference between them. Here’s everything you need to know. Digital marketing is using digital channels such as websites, social media, SEO as tools for marketing communication. Traditional marketing on the other hand involves channels like billboards and printed media. Until the development of internet in 1990s, this was the only type of marketing. Traditional marketing helps a marketer reach a wide audience via TV commercials at the same time. People get attached to these commercials and brands emotionally. Digital marketing is as important as traditional marketing and in today’s world of internet where using it for several hours each day is a normal part of most of us. So, taking this as an advantage you can pitch marketing communications.

Now, let me tell you about an important yet interesting topic. The CATT Funnel. After knowing this you would feel much organised about your thoughts. This funnel is based on wealth which is directly proportional to your niche.

i.e., wealth = n ^ CATT, where n is the niche you choose, C is the content which would help you attract audience, A is the attention you would drive using social media, ads, SEO etc; T is the trust you would build with your audience; T is the transaction that you would make to convert your audience into customers.

So, the niche selection is the most important step. And this is the simplest marketing funnel.

Until now you have gained 60% of the information. Let us move to the next part shall we?

Integrated digital marketing is our next topic. It is a combination of all the digital marketing methods. It includes email marketing, content marketing, paid advertising, SEO, social media, conversion organised in a proper and efficient manner.

This diagram says how these methods are to be organised and what steps are to be followed accordingly. This is directly related to the CATT funnel. The idea behind integrated digital marketing is that, while each individual digital marketing methods does not have a huge impact on its own, when used together, you can create a more influential online presence. It is most certainly the best way to build an online presence.

You must be wondering how do i know all these. Let me tell you that I came across Digital Deepak who is my mentor and he is excellent in his job. He has his company PixelTrack which offers internship opportunities. Currently they are enrolling batch 5 interns so you can go ahead and visit digitaldeepak.com. Believe me, this is not a boring internship. You will be provided with assignments where you have to write your blog, find your niche, improve your content writing skills, SEO, and what not.

On that note let us move to our last topic Personal Branding.

This diagram shows the evolution of a personal brand. What is personal branding?

It is how you present and promote yourself.

Creating a personal brand is a challenging task and one of the easiest ways to get lost in the process is to not know where to start. A personal brand is for everyone. You must be focused to learn about yourself, what are your strengths, your weaknesses. You must work on the latter. You must understand your interests and start researching them. Learn about them. Understand the processes and concepts. Remember the facts. Once you are confident on your new skill put it to work. Try implementing it in the practical world. Do not worry if you fail at first, try to find out where you are wrong. Gain confidence. After that write about everything from the start. Present it to the people. “PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE, NOT FROM BRANDS.” This was said by my mentor.

So, these are the steps you need to go through. After that you have to think from the market point of view. You would get clients for consultation. See, each and every process involves learning. While you are consulting someone you can gain knowledge and experience which would help you to become a mentor. You can become an influencer and a brand ambassador to your clients. After that you can build your own brand. But keep in mind that there is no limit to learning. Even after you establish your brand you must research and learn so as to cope up with the needs and wants of the consumer. Here comes marketing again. Evolution is very important in the process of personal branding.

So, I would say that start it from now. Do not procrastinate. I think I have motivated you enough. You do not have to quit your job neither you have to get a degree. You just need to know about yourself and believe me, nobody knows you better than you do.

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” — Walt Disney
